How we verify employers

Job scams are the reason this platform exists. The most common one in Ghana is simple: a listing appears, the role sounds right, and somewhere before the interview there is a fee. Verification is how we make that harder, and it only means something if we are specific about what it involves.

What we check

Before an employer carries a verified badge, a person at AfriRise Opportunities confirms four things.

  1. 1The business is registered. We check the company against its Registrar General filing, and against any sector licence the work requires, such as a Bank of Ghana licence for a lender or a Minerals Commission licence for a mining operation.
  2. 2The address is real. Someone visits, or where distance makes that impractical, verifies the premises through a named local contact who has been there.
  3. 3A named person answers for it. We speak to a director or senior manager by name and record who they are. An employer with nobody willing to be named does not get verified.
  4. 4The listings match the business. A registered bakery advertising six software roles is a signal, not a coincidence, and we ask about it.

What a badge does not mean

A verified badge means we checked that the employer is a real business run by real people who agreed to be accountable for their listings. It is not a reference, and it is not a guarantee.

  • We do not vouch for how anyone is treated once hired.
  • We do not confirm salaries are paid on time.
  • We do not assess whether an employer is a good one to work for.
  • We do not audit finances.

An employer without a badge has not failed anything. In most cases it means they are new here and the checks are not finished. The badge states what we confirmed. It does not imply anything about employers who do not have one yet.

The three states you will see

Verified

Checked and confirmed by a person. Verified employers appear above unverified ones in job listings.

Checks in progress

The employer has applied and the checks are underway. Their jobs are visible, and we say plainly that verification is not finished.

Not yet verified

Not yet checked. Usually a new employer. The listing is live and the same rule about payment applies to it as to every other.

Employers cannot verify themselves

This is worth stating plainly, because on most platforms a trust badge is a setting the advertiser controls.

Here it is not. The verification status of a company is not something an employer account is permitted to write. The permission simply does not exist for them, and it is enforced by the database itself rather than by the website. The only way a company becomes verified is an administrator recording that the checks above were done. An employer can ask to be verified. They cannot grant it.

If an employer asks you for money

Report it. There is a report link on every job listing, and it takes about thirty seconds. We review every report.

This applies to every listing on the platform, verified or not. There is no legitimate reason for an employer to charge you to apply for a job, to interview, to be trained, or to be placed.
