The role
Ankobra runs a three-year mechanical fitting apprenticeship in partnership with the district assembly, and we are taking on six apprentices for the coming intake.
You will train in the maintenance workshop alongside qualified fitters, moving through bench work, bearing and seal replacement, pump and conveyor maintenance, and eventually planned shutdown work. Classroom instruction runs one day a week and is paid. Assessment is continuous, and progression to the next year depends on passing it.
Apprentices who complete the programme hold a recognised trade qualification and are given first consideration for permanent fitter vacancies. Several of our current maintenance supervisors started on this programme.
What you will do
- Work under supervision in the maintenance workshop and on plant
- Complete the structured training modules and one paid classroom day each week
- Maintain a signed training logbook throughout the programme
- Observe all site safety procedures at all times
- Sit continuous assessments at the end of each year
What you need
- Aged 18 or over with WASSCE including Mathematics and an Integrated Science pass
- Genuine interest in mechanical work; prior workshop exposure is an advantage
- Physically fit and able to pass a pre-employment medical
- Resident in the Ankobra or Takoradi area
- Committed to the full three-year programme
