The role
We are looking for a Safety Officer to join the health, safety and environment team at the Ankobra site. The role covers the concession and the processing facility.
You will run inspections, deliver toolbox talks and induction training, investigate incidents and near misses, and follow corrective actions through to closure. A large part of the job is being present on site and being willing to stop work that is being done unsafely, including when that is inconvenient for a production target.
The HSE team reports independently of production, which is deliberate. You will have the authority the role requires.
What you will do
- Conduct routine site inspections and document findings
- Deliver induction and refresher safety training to site staff and contractors
- Investigate incidents and near misses and identify root causes
- Track corrective actions to closure
- Maintain statutory HSE records and support regulatory inspections
What you need
- Degree or HND in Environmental Science, Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety
- At least three years in an HSE role, preferably in mining or heavy industry
- NEBOSH certificate or equivalent is strongly preferred
- Confident stopping unsafe work and explaining why
- Familiar with Minerals Commission and EPA reporting obligations
