The role
This is a two-year structured apprenticeship in tower maintenance, leading to full climbing and safety certification and, for those who complete it, a permanent technician role.
You will start on the ground: learning equipment handling, rigging, safety procedure and the theory behind what the climbing teams are doing above you. Climbing training begins in month four and only after you have passed the ground assessments. By the second year you will be working aloft as part of a certified crew.
We run this programme ourselves and we do not subcontract tower work, which means the standard we train you to is the standard we are held to. A monthly allowance is paid throughout, rising in the second year.
What you will do
- Support ground operations for climbing crews, including rigging and equipment checks
- Complete the structured training modules and assessments in sequence
- Learn and apply safety procedure without shortcuts
- Progress to supervised climbing work from month four
- Keep a training logbook signed off by your supervisor
What you need
- Aged 18 or over with at least a WASSCE or technical certificate
- Physically fit and comfortable with heights
- No fear of instruction and correction; safety training is repetitive by design
- Able to travel to sites across Greater Accra
- Committed to the full two-year programme
